The Hobbit – The Desolation of Smaug

The Hobbit

‘The Hobbit – The Desolation of Smaug’ is the second instalment of the Hobbit franchise. These films have a lot to live up after the multi-award winning Lord of the Ring trilogy.

This film follows Bilbo Baggins and a company of dwarves continuing their epic quest to reclaim to dwarves homeland of Erebor. At the end of the first film Bilbo came across Gollum and found a mysterious and powerful ring which helped him avoid inevitable death at the hands of the goblins.

Probably the most exciting part of the film is the unveiling of Smaug -the dragon. After being very careful not to show him in the first film, fans have been waiting for this moment. They won’t be disappointed.

The middle instalment is much more satisfying than the first and I confidently recommend it to any cinema-goer.

‘The Hobbit – The Desolation of Smaug’ is in cinemas from 13th December

  1. It’s a fun ride for the most part, but could have been so much better in spots that weren’t constantly dialogue-heavy and filled to the brim with exposition. Good review.
